I'll talk about the recent evolution of Drupal, from my perspective as a core code committer for the current release (Drupal 7) who has also been involved (but less so) in the development of the upcoming Drupal 8. I will try to provide a balanced perspective on the changes that are being proposed for Drupal 8 and are actively being worked on as we speak.
